Town Theatre
The founders of the Town Theatre were not professional producers, directors or actors. They were a group of families who dreamed of a new concept for Columbia: a theatre where they and their families could not only watch plays, but also take part in them for fun and learn from the experience.
Town Theatre provides an exceptional opportunity for entry level actors by giving them the chance to work on stage with experienced veterans, many of whom are working professionals volunteering their time. Many of Town Theatre's current and alumni performers have appeared on Broadway, network television and in major feature films. They include Cats, A Chorus Line, Ruthless People, Hill Street Blues, and North and South. Every performance has open auditions, with all community members being encouraged to attend. There is also ample opportunity for members of the community to get involved behind the scenes.

Grease: May 4-20.
Take a trip to a simpler time of poodle skirts, drive-ins, and T-birds. "Bad boy" Danny and "the girl next door" Sandy fall in love all over again to the tunes of your favorite songs: "Summer Nights," "Greased Lightning," and "We Go Together," as well as additional songs from the hit movie: "Grease is the Word,"
"Hopelessly Devoted to You," and "You're the One That I Want." Throw your mittens around your kittens and hand-jive the night away with the show that'll make you want to stand up and shout, "A-wopbop-a-loo-bop A-wop-bam-boom!"

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat: July 13-29. This is the story of Joseph, from the book of Genesis, a young man with a knack for having prophetic dreams-and the favorite son in the family. Incurring the jealousy of his brothers, they sell him into slavery in Egypt where his talents eventually save the country from fa mine and secure him a pos ition as Pharaoh's right-hand man. In due time, he is
reunited with his now-contrite and guiltridden brethren. Catchy music by Andrew Lloyd Webber utilizes a variety of musical styles and genres including rock 'n' roll, country-western, reggae, and disco. Prepare
to enter a world of dreams, for-as Joseph learns-"any dream will do."

In the Next Room, or The Vibrator Play: May 4-26.
This is a comedy about marriage, intimacy, and electricity. Set in the 1880s at the dawn of the age of electricity in a seemingly perfect, well-to-do Victorian home, proper gentleman and scientist Dr. Givings has innocently invented an extraordinary new device for treating "hysteria" in women (and occasionally men): the vibrator. Adjacent to the doctor's laboratory, his young and energetic wife tries to tend to their newborn daughter-and wonders exactly what is going on in the next room. When a new "hysterical" patient and her husband bring a wet nurse and their own complicated relationship into the doctor's home, Dr. and Mrs. Givings must examine the nature of their own marriage, and what it truly means
to love someone. This laugh out loud, provocative and touching play will take Trustus patrons on an "arousing" journey through the depths of the heart.

Almost an Evening: June 20-30.
From popular filmmaker and screenwriter Ethan Cohen comes a hilarious evening of one-acts. In Almost an Evening, three short plays unsuccessfully tackle important questions. In Waiting, someone waits
somewhere for a long time - is it Heaven or Hell? In Four Benches, a voyage to selfdiscovery
takes a British intelligence agent to steam baths in New York and Texas, and to park benches in the U.S. and U.K. In Debate, cosmic questions are taken up as an actor plays a challenging role: GOD. Not much is
learned, but boy, it's a good time!

Avenue Q: July 15-21.
Winner of the TONY "TRIPLE CROWN" for BEST MUSICAL, BEST SCORE and BEST BOOK, Avenue Q is part flesh, part felt, and packed with heart. Avenue Q is a laugh-outloud musical that tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. There, he meets Kate (the girl next door), Rod (the Republican), Trekkie (the internet sexpert), Lucy the Slut (need we say more?), and other colorful types who help Princeton finally discover his purpose in life! Featuring puppets by Columbia Marionette Theatre's Lyon Hill, Avenue Q will leave you rolling in the aisles with the most original experience in the Midlands this summer.

The Palace of the Moorish Kings: August 10-18.
Based on a short story by Evans S. Connell, this play is about the extent to which we get to choose how we live-or the extent to which we are programmed or brainwashed to live a certain way. It's 1970, and the Vietnam War is still raging. Old friends from high school-a doctor, a bank president, a contractor and an ad man, plus their wives-gather for the Thanksgiving ritual of gorging themselves and watching football. They are all pushing 50. Hard. On that fateful day, they get a call from JD, their old high school chum who tells
them he's given up his world travels (about which he's sent many letters and photos) and
that he's coming back-and would they please make room for him? Now JD is old. And so are they. One has Parkinson's but is not yet diagnosed. One is in the grip of a nasty midlife emotional meltdown. One feels like a loser compared to his executive buddies. One has a son MIA in Vietnam who is surely dead, yet he still clings to the ideals that have cost him the life of his only child. Ideals, politics, and friendships are
challenged as this impassioned group converges for Thanksgiving.
